the process

After filming was completed, each video was organised into the event categories.

Specific slides needed to be on each video:

  • PCA logo intro slide
  • Promo event banner
  • Category or competitor name
  • Footage of each category event
  • List of official sponsors
  • Copyright watermark
  • Filmed and produced by credits

From there, templates were set up to accommodate the lower thirds graphics that would introduce each category name and competitor.

These were imported to After Effects as a placeholder, and the design was established - along with key-framing how the banner faded in and then animated out sideways.

creative process
Animation and special effects

Imagery and assets such as the logo were animated or had special effects applied to them. This mainly included the intro slide, as well as the lower thirds graphics.

Custom animations from scratch

The lower thirds graphics were setup according to the screen layout template and then composited using the Essential Graphics panel.

  • Text was made into editable variables, to be updated for each category and competitor name. This would update and refresh the animation for each event or competitor.
  • Timing of the animation was also set as editable, depending on the length of footage and timing of when competitors entered the frame. It could be either delayed or slightly sped up.
Transitions

Brief transitions were used between event footage and corresponsding slides

Motion graphics, audio and special effects

Using premiere pro, the essential graphics templates of lower thirds were layered over the top of the footage. Each slide such as sponsor list, promo banner and end credits were positioned sequentially in the timeline.

The audio was optimised and mixed to meet recommended broadcast and metering levels.

Then each segment was then batch exported using the youtube export preset in the Media Encoder.
